Department of Home Science

Year of Establishment: 1963

Home Science is a new area of Science. Its history is short. During the British rule between 1920 and 1940, their rulers introduced Home Science as domestic science. The Princely State of Baroda was one of the first Sate to introduce Home Science. To raise the standard of Home Science education in order to develop a positive and skilled personality to meet the need of hour inside and outside of home too.

Vision:

1. The vision of our department is preparing the students to develop values and skill to promote, personal, family and social responsibilities.
2. The course aims at training the students as wise consumers, systematic home makers.
3. To foster knowledge of Home Science and enable the students to start as an entrepreneur in order to become self independent.

Scope of Home Science:

• CAREER- A chosen profession or occupation for self Advancement.
• VOCATION:- A regular occupation for which an individual is particularly suited or qualified.
• WAGE EMPLOYMENT- Earning salary or wages by working for someone or some organization.
• SELF EMPLOYMENT- Income earning activity by becoming owner of Activity.
• ANTREPRENEURSHIP- Small scale innovative business to earn to profit.

Time to time various workshops, Activities, Seminars and Lectures were organised in the department for the benefit of students.   

Home Science Lab

Home Science Lab plays an important role to enhance skills needed to meet basic needs in a family. Our college has spacious, ventilated and well equipped lab with basic facilities and equipments to conduct practical related to curriculum of Punjabi University, Patiala. Lab is to provide training and guidance to the students in fields of nutritive cooing, clothing and textile and Home Management.
