About Us:
The Department of English at Govt. Ranbir College, Sangrur is dedicated to the study and appreciate of literature, language, and writing. Our mission is to foster a deep understanding of the diverse tradition of English Literature, where also encouraging critical thinking, creative expression, and effective communication. We offer a welcoming environment where students can explore the richness of literacy texts, develop their writing skills and engage in intellectual discourse, our faculty consists of passionate educators who are committed to help students achieve academic excellence and personal growth.
Courses:
Our department offers a wide range of courses designed to meet the interests and needs of our students, whether they are pursuing a major in English or simply looking to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Introduction to literature: a survey of key literary works across genres, including fiction, poetry and drama.

Shakespearean Studies: an in depth exploration of the works of villain Shakespeare, examining themes, historical contexts and literary impact.
American Literature
A study of major American Willam from the colonial period to present.
Literacy Theory and Practice: An examination of various approaches to analyse and interpret literacy texts.
We also offer courses that allow students to delve deeper into specific areas of interest such as postcolonial literature, gender studies etc.

The Department of English is committed to supporting our students academic journey by providing access to variety of learning resources including library access, Departmental library, study groups, Guest Lectures and readings.
Seminar Lectures:
English studies are dynamic, with new theories, interpretations and literary works constantly emerging. The department organises seminars and extension lectures on various topics which help students to stay informed about the latest developments in their field. These events provide students with opportunities to interact with experts and peers, which can be beneficial for future academic and career prospects.
